International Conference on Africa

EBCITD & GLOCENTRA

Conférence Internationale sur l’Afrique a Claremont Hotel, Berkeley, California, USA

International Conference on Africa, Berkeley, California, USA

Since my early studies at Institut des Etudes Politiques of the Grenoble University, the development and integration of Africa were at the forefront of my studies and topics of my presentations in seminaries and essay-papers. It was natural that I continue to work and increase the awarness about Africa and its needs of establishing new kind of relations with other countries other than the past metropolitan and colonialists.

Here below among other pictures, there is a photo taken in company with the Regretted Dr. Babacar Ndiaye, former CEO of the African Development Bank Group who hold firmly my hand and is standing at my left side.

On my right hand is Dr. Faheem Director of the Center for International Trade Development, on the other left side and holding my hand is Dr. Boubacar N’diaye, Chairman of the African Development Bank from 1985 to 1995 and honorary chairman of the same institution (Rest in Peace among the Blessed ones, Ameen)

I initiated and developed a workplan on the organization of The International Conference on Africa took place in 2001. The first time in the history of the Bay Area of San Francisco and North California to have a conference of such magnitude and subject. that I submitted to Fazale Sharif the Director of the EBCITD which I was the initiator and for which I and participated directly in its organization. I contacted and invited Dr. Babacar Ndiaye and in the following photo, event / photo took place is during an International Conference on Africa I had organized in Oakland, California and of which Dr. Babacar Ndiaye, Rahimahu Allah was our Guest of Honor.

Here below are listed links which content present among others some illustrations of my activities in regard to the Integration of Africa with which I was directly involved, including the facilitation of the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between the United States and Morocco.

For many among us, time flies through horizons without leaving traces on recognition and gratitude on what we have achieved for the good for others especially in my case not be born in the United States but I remain up to now the maker of differences between cultures and the guardian of the memories I cherish and remember through my meetings and interactions with the real treasuries of the Humanity.

The second link below presents “The ADB honors its former president, the late Babacar Ndiaye: https://www.afdb.org/en/news-and-events/the-afdb-pays-tribute-to-late-president-babacar-ndiaye-17363

I extended the invitation to Dr. Boubacar N’diaye for his presence among us at this International Conference on Africa.  He was delighted about my presentation and we also sat together and had lunch at the same table.  Wonderful Man with full love for Africa and Africans and who initiated a series of important financial and operational measures: the African Businessmen Round Table, the creation of the African Bank for import-export (Afreximbank) and the setting up of a special easy financing for the African private sector (investors and entrepreneurs) without the guarantee of their governments.

The Conference Room was packed with U.S. and Foreign officials and Executives as well as faculties and Researchers on Africa and the Place where all these interactions took place was the fabulous and monumental Claremont Hotel in Berkeley, Northern California.

Sciences Po Grenoble in 1977-78: Right-wing Extremist and Fake Progressist

Africa and Morocco and their Independent Development

Said El Mansour Cherkaoui  March 5, 2023

Sciences Po Grenoble in 1977-78: Right-wing Extremist Fortress and Fake Progressives

To my African Sisters and Brothers

Those who have not lived face to face with the anti-African reality to realize at their own level how it could completely ruin their lives.

Hoping my story can help them open their eyes wider

While I was a young student at Sciences Po Grenoble I describe it in previous link which will allow you to read my story which undermined all the ingredients and opportunities of another Made In Great Britain future of the time but my pride to be an African and to remain so was worth all the losses that I subsequently endured like a waterfall of magma burning everything in my path.

My wounds have never been healed but my African dignity is my eternal strength

I am proud to have always supported Africa wherever I go and this through the Education I received from my Mother and Father, Rahma Wa Ghofrane for all our parents, Amen

Africa between the Walls of Sciences Po Grenoble: Right-wing Extremist Fortress and Fake Progressives in 1977-78

Sciences Po de Grenoble de France in 1977-78: Africa – China and Development of Morocco

In France, while I was still a student in Grenoble and in a seminar to obtain the Diploma at Sciences Po, I formulated a project on the Development of China, defending it as the only model to imitate and follow. by all our former African colonies which were, in the 1970s, shaken by the brutality and sudden oscillations of the international market and the weight of foreign debt and the deepening of social gaps, poverty and social conflicts and wars civil. It became urgent and essential to formulate another path and another development strategy than that inherited from the former settler countries and international creditor institutions which took over in the consolidation of new forms of dependence on the outside. Africa was thus divided and confronted with the new forces of the international market now undermined by conflicts for the monopoly of energy and natural resources. An Africa which oscillated between open rivalries between the Soviet Bloc, China, India and the liberal Western countries whose war in Vietnam and the Middle East also remained the direct results of such a division of the international market and which fueled the causes of the conflagration and the breakup of Africa into geostrategic zones of inter-conflict influence aggravating its internal difficulties imposing blockages for its social and economic emancipation based on the satisfaction of the rights and needs of its own citizens .

The price I paid for development in China

Said El Mansour Cherkaoui’s Conceptual Love Story with the Development of Africa through the implantation of the China Model in 1978 which attracted the jealous rages of those nostalgic for the Colonial and Neo-Colonial Era in Sciences Po de Grenoble

I presented and defended the Chinese Development Model in 1977 as the only way to develop Africa and this in front of a harsh representative of the RPR (Rally for the Republic – French Political Party), in fact this individual was rather an extreme right hidden and undeclared who was a lecturer – I should say a little blackmailer and master of disasters – at the Institute of Political Studies of the University of Grenoble.

This angry Facho Disastrous Lecturer tried to blackmail me and impose his will and his ideological tendencies on my thoughts. He wanted me to change my mind and tell all the students in the seminar that China is not the way to go as a model of national development for third world countries that are looking for ‘an honorable outcome and an alternative magnifying their human senses in the face of underdevelopment, poverty and misery and the shameful exploitation of their resources, both human and natural, by lobbies, conglomerates and foreign monopolies recognizing no borders and guided by the sole objective of multinational profit associated with puppet and puppet regimes that are changed according to the scripts of the international situation and the demand of former colonizing metropolitan countries and other twin Western economies.

I refused and I lost a year and many other levels of life and existence but not my vision of the world which turned out to be the way things have evolved since and with time which confirmed my certainties of this time

This poor type of “Lecturer” did not appreciate my research and my presentation that I made at this Institute for the Department of Economics and Finance at the Institute of Political Studies of the University of Grenoble. It was the last year for obtaining the Diploma. He completely kicked me out but God gave the right response and punishment for his abuse towards me.

China also became a new state based on its own capabilities and the inputs and directives of Deng Xiaoping (August 22, 1904 – February 19, 1997) who was the centerpiece of my presentation.

Despite this idiot and the obstacle he tried to put in my way thinking about national development, I continued my journey by obtaining a doctorate from the Sorbonne University, Paris on the same theme while creating a new concept of sub-capitalism as a result of insertion into the international market and later I was the guest of the Government of China to form their companies here in Oakland, California and China (see the photos below -attached).

On the occasion of my Triumph over Racism and the Academic Smallness of the Pseudo-Right in Grenoble, and what time much later has confirmed my choices and my analyzes on economic development, I offer here to all my Friends this article on China which deploys its forces based on the use of its own resources in response to a real and sincere need for national development and international affirmation at all levels.

In the United States, in the mid-1990s, I organized trade and business visits for Chinese dignitaries, executives and officials to the San Francisco Bay Area and provided them with consulting services and training on international business development. So, more than twenty years ago, a British organization and publishing house in London asked me to conduct research on the development of telecommunications and technology in China.

Here are two extracts from this research which were published in London, United Kingdom. My research, like all the other research work that I had carried out, my analysis on China was oriented through a prospective vision and a prediction of the effects and manifestations that could be generated subsequently and in the future of the countries.

In this research work, I have highlighted the direct and ambivalent relationship and pivotal role of the Chinese state in the direct development of technology in China. During this search and at the same time, I worked as an international sales director at Sprint Corp and as co-chair of the international committee of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, where I had the opportunity to facilitate the visit of the vice -mayor of Beijing and a delegation of senior Chinese executives.

At the same time, I was teaching a set of curriculum studies and courses on telecommunications, digital security, and national technology development at the School of Technology at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. All this involvement and interest in China and as a senior consultant with the Center for International Trade Development in Oakland and Berkeley, I was invited by the Chinese government and the Guizhou provincial government who granted me the best of the best treatment I have ever received and that is comparing their treatment of me with any entity in the world that I have had direct dealings with.

France from 1973 – 1987 with and by Said El Mansour Cherkaoui

France for me is above all and this during my fifteen years and more spent within its walls, it is above all a land of asylum and to continue my sporting, artistic, cultural and academic activities and for this I remain full of gratitude to the people who helped me make this journey and cross these areas with knowledge. Of course I experienced a lot of rejection and marginalization but that as they say was part of the territory I covered and I grew up.

If I take a look at what I have experienced, I would say France which is high in my vision of this world, it is that of those who were extraordinary individuals who were dedicated to helping others, to the success of others and above all a “Foreigner” as I was always considered by others from clandestine and silent France and sometimes angry and stormy by its own lack of internal peace and this since the time of the Romans.

France was in 1977-78 in the midst of intestinal struggles on the right led by two former collaborators and accomplices [Giscard D’Estaing and Jacques Chirac] in the fall and even resignation of the Father of the 5th Republic and Liberator of Paris , Charles De Gaulle.

In March 1978, there was the “Champ de Mars”, an institutional war in the form of legislative elections  through which the new movement advocated by Chirac against Giscard soon became a powerful electoral machine as much oriented against the opposition as against the “Giscardians”. by wanting to embody a middle path between “the demagogic program of the social-communist left” and “the solutions of the conservative, orthodox, classic right”

During that same year, as for the Seminar of Practical Work on Political Marketing with Madame Freyssinet, the Wife of the famous economist Prof also in Grenoble. In this research work, I opted for the preparation of political mobilization campaigns led by the political movement of the French Communist Party [PCF] under Georges Marchais and the General Confederation of Labor [CGT] with Georges Séguy as secretary. What particularly interested me was the relationship between the PCF and the CGT, the central issue being participation in the left-wing government for the PCF and union independence for the CGT. Thus, I was more into the analysis of left-wing currents in France and in the movements for the Emergence of new forms of development for the formerly colonized countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America.

My extra-curriculum activities can be summarized as follows:

  • My positions and analyzes within student organizations
  • The discussions held in the Restaurant and the University Cafeteria,
  • Debates in the study and practical work rooms
  • Participation in meetings of student unions in France, Morocco and Africa: UNEF, UNEM and UEA
  • The organization and intervention in solidarity events towards Chilean exiles in Villeneuve
  • Participations in the rehabilitation of the city center of Grenoble for the integration of immigrant families
  • The French learning lessons that I gave to North African and sub-Saharan workers freshly arrived from Africa.
  • My direct contacts with workers in my own city of birth and their integration into the sporting activities that I coached on the Saint-Martin-d’Hères Campus and elsewhere in the City of Grenoble.

All these academic and social activities earned me sincere friends that I keep until now and also a Moroccan guy who pretended to be what he did not turn out to be and therefore in the light of time and the contours of the sincere memory, he revealed himself as a clandestine collaborator of the fallen regimes of oppression and discrimination, he is therefore the mole as they said among the clandestine opponents who fed these demarcated Disaster Conference Masters for anything that calls into question their intellectual, academic, social and even universal ethnocentrism and segregationism.

Thus, in 1977-78, a disastrous lecturer and neurotic to boot, before the end of the academic year had an operation on his brain. A scar ran the length and breadth of his forehead making him look like Francestein , and for months before the presentation of my work as an analyst on Africa, this future Frankstein was convalescing.

This surgical operation did not make him a better human being, on the contrary, it gave him more reminiscences towards the rest of us who refused bootlicking and submission to individuals and currents of outdated and neo-colonial thought nostalgic for their abusive and exploitative pasts of the brains, bodies and raw materials of countries that have become at least aware of their possibility of renewing their human and civilizational dignity. We were the generation that corrected abuses and stereotypes, the generation after “independence” which was more fictitious in terms of economic development and remained more anchored both to the nodes of the colonial past and to divisions between emerging nations. .

During the convalescence of this Franckstein , we Africans gathered at the Biblio to continue the preparation of our presentation given that the sessions of this practical work were at night and that this Refoulé d’Extreme Droite – Facho, a residue of the nostalgics of Action Française .

We remained spread out in the Library and Reading Rooms in the University Residences of the Saint-Martin d’Hères Campus where we met to share our ideas and our visions on Africa. All the Students in my seminar were either football players like me, so we trained together and played against each other in the African University Championship that we organize together, or in the Booms and parties Muslims where we shared national dishes with our French friends and other foreign students to make them aware of our similar traditions or when we celebrate the independence days of our respective countries or even in the meetings of our respective Union of Students such as the Union of African Students in France or the Union of Moroccan Students in France or the National Union of French Students within the Faculty of Social Sciences of Grenoble.

Thus in 1977-78, a drunken lecturer from the Far Right, an extremist member of the  Rally for the Republic  (RPR),  rejected my presentation on the adaptation in Africa of the Chinese Model of Development. He gave me a grade which caused me to repeat the grade and lose a year of studies and at the same time lost a scholarship to the Institute of Development Studies in Brighton and also my future wife who is of United Kingdom nationality. A cascade of failures ensued for me that spanned several areas that I previously tried to separate from the rest.

My Generation of Students in France was a Generation that knew the Europeans and the French of Morocco very closely, we lived together in Morocco, shared the same emotions, and we rubbed against the same winds and the same tides and waves of the Atlantic than those of common existence. We were neighbors in everything, in the neighborhood, in schools, high schools and parties and dances. We practiced the same sports, Tennis, Fencing, Handball, Volleyball, Basketball and even the everyday sports of System D.

Our teachers and our schoolmasters were our models of success, they were our daily mentors and we were full of gratitude and good feelings towards them in the same way as those we nourished towards our compatriots Jewish Amazighs.

I had the opportunity to grow up and be taught by a class of Europeans born in Morocco in Doukkala who practiced the same popular language with the accent of our Doukkala and could not be differentiated from my uncles from the countryside or from the city of Mazagan – Mriziga – El Jadida and this by Victor Puglisi, Antoine “Nounou” Oulad Baggio, Maurice Ratel, Alain [Allal] Goirin, Carpozen, Dr. Paoletti, Laporte, Perrault, Marco, Ardouin, Petersen, Vidal, Rizzo, Jacquetty, Adigard des Gautries, Gonzalez, Lepine, Tachx, Gicquel, Clegnac, Perez, Salinas, Gimenez, Martinez, Borgia, Laplante, Tibaudet, Marais, Philippe, Rivière, Dr. Ingarao, Dr. Verdier, Manetti, Vidal, Dufour, Grillon, Sellier, Balestrino,

Defending Africa or Defending a Model of Industrial Development in Morocco by taking the example of Great Britain means having on our backs the revengers and the massacrers Conference Masters/Arena where we were Gladiators fighting for our intellectual survival and our academic rescue. These bludgeons of novelty and the projection of ideas into the space of reflection and prospecting did not want to admit the limit of their own existence as a claimant to the possession of knowledge and could not have the human courage and individual honesty to and recognize their dark ignorance.

This drowning in the absolute of ignorance was conveyed by their search to have the upper hand in order to possess this mental comfort of having Maghrebi Students still engulfed in the notion of “Blessed Yes Yes” and followers of the model of metropolitan neo-colonial modernization which feeds their bellies and fills their wallets and in no way accepts alternatives or proposals other than those on which they build their pseudo-know-how and the basis of their knowledge on the repression of new restrictive and competing ideas their decline by novelty and creativity that time and destiny could only confirm.

Within the premises of the SciencesPo Institute of Political Studies in Grenoble, following the corridor starting from the entrance facing the Diderot university restaurant of the CROUS and at the back on the right just before the back exit which leads to the parking lot and the University Library, to the right were the rooms for practical work and in one of these rooms the outrage of making me repeat the year happened just for daring to present and defend the conclusion of my research which is to say that it is China which is and would be the example of economic development that African countries and the rest of the Third World countries should embrace and adopt for their own economic take-off and to adapt Chinese strategies aimed at reduction of poverty and the stimulation of social progress and this through an orientation of constructive and developmentalist socialism and this was by no means the first or the last time that I suffered the wrath of “retrograde, fascist and racist” teachers who displayed appearing as progressives and left-wing thinkers just to occupy lucrative positions and not out of ideological or humanist conviction.

It was necessary to overcome these obstacles to reach the higher level of the Diploma of Advanced Studies to finally find and rub shoulders with true masters of thought and application of socio-human principles such as my research directors and appointed professors who facilitated intellectual development, the success of their disciples and their students: Ian Dessau, Yves Barel, Debernis, Freyssinet and others whose ethical and honest spirit I salute, worthy of all recognition and eternal praise.

1 – The Price I Paid for China’s Development:

I defended the Chinese Model of Development in 1977 against a Representative and a tough RPR (Rally for the Republic – Chiraquien of obedience at the time) and perhaps even a camouflaged extreme right who was a lecturer – I should say a little blackmailer of disasters – at the Institute of Political Studies of the University of Grenoble.

This pseudo-instructor tried to blackmail me into changing my mind, ideological orientation and political direction and saying in front of all the Students that the West and the French Metropolis have all the solutions for the development of nations. formerly colonized. Since I was looking for and advocating another model of development that I had identified in China, he wanted me to declare that China was not the example to follow for economic development for Third World countries.

For him, it was the European countries which were the suppliers of revenue and means for the development of African countries. My choice became a personal matter for him since other African Students were also part of the Seminar in which I anticipated the results of my research project.

My presentation was in fact centered on the logic of forced underdevelopment on our economies and how to break the shackles of Neo-Colonialism and the subjection of our decisions and national strategies to the good desires and vagaries of the international situation and market leaders. international financial, commercial and even martial.

I refused and I lost a year but not my vision of the world which proved correct over time.

This “poor guy”, he did not appreciate my research work and my presentation in front of all the other Students in the Economics and Finance section at the Institute of Political Studies in Grenoble. It was the last year for obtaining the Institute Diploma. He completely ruined me but the Good Lord made him right for his abuse.

China also became a new state on bases which were effectively supported by Deng Xiaoping (August 22, 1904 – February 19, 1997) whose photo is the one introducing this outline.

I had effectively demonstrated that the Modernization implemented by this experienced politician, Deng Xiaoping, brought change. I maintained that the corresponding mutations would therefore upset the chessboard and the game of the internationalization of capital and the consequent international division of labor. The modification of these two vectors of foreign investments in third countries will no longer be done according to their own conditions of operation and exploitation but that China, taking the examples of Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore, would find a path other than this followed by these countries which had been nicknamed the “New Industrial Countries and the Dragons of Asia.”

China sought to distance itself from such a model of product assembly and to integrate into its industrial fabric its own innovative technology with high added value per product and per operation in each industrial unit. This approach subsequently effectively promoted China’s technological momentum while allowing it to find a place among the economic powers of Asia and the world.

Despite this idiot and the obstacle that he tried to put as sticks in my path of reflection and reference for national development, I continued my journey until being the guest of the Government of China to train their Business leaders here in Oakland (California) and in China itself and where his photos were taken. Likewise, in the meantime, I had even defended a Doctorate thesis at the University of Sorbonne on the same subject of economic development and integration into the world market by creating a new theory on Subcapitalism.

In celebration of my Triumph over this gratuitous adversity and over the disdain almost tinged with racism and the Academic Smallness of this master of ideological disaster and Pseudo-Right in Grenoble, and what time much later confirmed my choices and my analyzes on national economic development, I offer you this article on China and the display of its strengths based on the exploitation of its own resources for a real and authentic need for national development and international affirmation at all levels.

Sciences Po Grenoble Graduates Eco-Fi Section

A Rejected person knowing little about Morocco, landed at Sciences Po Grenoble , rejected from the Fac Sciences Eco since de Bernis preferred Christian Palloix.

Jean Rosio could not find anything better than to join forces with a silent woman who sailed with the wind: Danielle Demoustier.

This was during the period when all North Africans were not welcome at Sciences Po Grenoble, especially those who stood up to these false left-wing thinkers while their portfolios tilted towards the extreme right. These two Zombies/Lecturers had fear on their heels from where they were getting their money from, afraid that people would take their distorted ideas and show them that they were usurping their places given the lack of innovation of their knowledge and given that they were stingy in grades and that no Maghreb Revolutionary/s left with superior grades and high honors from this institution of Sciences Po Grenoble , they were the ghost guardians of privileges of the right absent but active through them.

I now understand why most foreigners at that time and Moghrebi continued their studies at the Eco Sciences Faculty, the next door where the French True Left resides.

For them, it was necessary to get drunk with them to please these lost soul teachers, an active minority of right-wing extremists and “ideological mess thinkers” taking themselves for activists on the barricades, competing with L ‘ PARIS INSTITUTE OF POLITICAL STUDIES – SCIENCES PO as they did not have the necessary juice, they used “left” subterfuges to assert themselves as the continuators of May 68 and the protests of the students and the working class

As I did not consume alcohol, I was always on the left side as a Muslim of their game and their scheme and I was not the only one in this case

Text in French with Translation in English

In France, while I was still a student at Sciences Po in Grenoble, I formulated a project on the Development of China and I presented it as the model to imitate and follow by all these former African colonies which were during the 1970s, shaken by the brutality and sudden oscillations of the international market and the weight of foreign debt. In the United States, in the mid-1990s, for Chinese dignitaries, executives and officials, I organized their trade and business visits to the San Francisco Bay Area and provided them with consulting and training on international business development.

During this time, twenty years ago, a British organization and publishing house in London asked me to conduct research on telecommunications and technological development in China.

In this research work, I highlighted the direct and ambivalent relationship of the pivotal role of the Chinese State in the direct development of technology in China.

My research, like all the others that I had conducted, was directed through a projection and prediction of the effects and manifestations that could subsequently be generated and in the future of the countries or sectors which were the subjects concerned by my research.

During this period, I worked as Director of International Affairs at Sprint Corp. and as co-chair of the international committee of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce where I had the opportunity to facilitate the visit of the vice-mayor of Beijing and a delegation of Chinese executives from Yunnan.

At the same time, I taught a curriculum and courses on telecommunications, digital security, and national technological development at the School of Technology at Golden Gate University in San Francisco . All these implications and interests on China and seeing that as a senior consultant with the Center for International Trade Development in Oakland and Berkeley, I was invited by the Chinese government and the provincial government of Guizhou who granted me the best of the best treatment I have ever received from any entity in this world. In fact, I am still “redeveloping” the same research topic on China’s technological development and intend to publish my entire work in book form. In the meantime, I offer you a glimpse of my interests in Chinese technological advances in the form of the first pages of my work published in London.

China marks 70th V-Day anniversary with spectacular parade (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of Japan’s capitulation in WWII, China has showcased hundreds of its newest military hardware in a remarkable parade which saw some 12,000 troops marching across Tiananmen Square in front of dozens of world leaders.

Some 30 foreign leaders attended the memorial event, representing countries from Russia and Belarus, to Egypt, South Korea and Venezuela. The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon also attended the parade, while the majority of “high-profile” Western leaders have passed on the event.

Over 200 Chinese aircraft, including fighter jets, bombers and dozens of helicopters, zoomed above the fascinated crowd. China has rolled out seven types of missiles on to Tiananmen Square, including four ballistic nuclear missiles.

Among them was the Dong Feng-21D anti-aircraft-carrier medium-range nuclear missile (‘Carrier-Killer’), which currently is the world’s only ballistic missile capable of engaging a moving target out at sea.

Beijing also demonstrated the Dong Feng-26 nuclear missile, a medium-range ballistic projectile prohibited in Russia and the US because of a bilateral agreement. This intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM) was nicknamed the “Guam killer” because it can reach the US Pacific Ocean base.

The PLA also presented its newest intercontinental strategic ballistic missiles, the DF-5 with a range of 12,000 kilometers and the DF-31A – range 8,000 kilometers.

During an almost two-hour-long People’s Liberation Army (PLA) parade, several hundred military vehicles of around 40 different types rolled across the square.

The whole event was accompanied by an army orchestra and a 2,400-strong massed choir that sang some 30 songs.

Chinese troops were not marching alone on the commemorative date: They were joined by their fellow soldiers from Belarus, Cuba, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Mongolia, Pakistan, Serbia, Tajikistan and Russia.

Additionally, for the first time in the history of Chinese parades, female soldiers marched on Tiananmen Square.

Addressing the nation and guests prior to the show, President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s commitment to the path of peace.

“Prejudice and discrimination, hatred and war can only cause disaster and pain,”  Xi said, announcing plans to reduce the number of the country’s troops by 300,000, some 13 percent of the current 2.3-million strong PLA, as part of the country’s long -term military reform.

“China will always uphold the path of peaceful development,”  Xi said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who took part in the celebratory events in Beijing on Thursday, said that the lessons of World War II should be remembered to minimize military conflicts around the world.

During a meeting with Xi, he agreed with his counterpart that Russia and China are “ united by a strategic relationship and, as we say, a comprehensive partnership,”  adding  “what is also important is the way we perceive historical problems.”

Russia and China should not forget “ the cruel actions of invaders on the temporarily occupied territories, which resulted in innumerable victims.”

“ But we must remember this to make sure that nothing like this happens again in the future. I listened carefully to your speech at the parade, I believe that was the main message of your speech addressed to the people of China and the people of the entire world, namely: everything must be done to prevent large-scale military conflicts in the future and to minimize military conflicts in general, ” Putin said.

At the meeting, Putin confirmed that large bilateral projects will be implemented despite “ economic turbulence in Russia and China.”

“ During bilateral meetings today, we exchanged opinions, and we have full confidence that we will move forward consistently, develop our relations, implement our plans, including large projects which will definitely have a positive effect on the development of the Russian and Chinese economies, and the global economy as a whole, ” he said.

AFRIQUE – USA – AFRICA and Said El Mansour Cherkaoui

· Oakland – Berkeley – Bay Area of San Francisco – North California ·

I extended the invitation to Dr. Boubacar N’diaye for his presence among us at this International Conference on Africa.  He was delighted about my presentation that included the North and South of Sahara with Senegal as the link between the two African Regions. We also sat together and had lunch at the same table.  Wonderful Man with full love for Africa and Africans and who initiated a series of important financial and operational measures: the African Businessmen Round Table, the creation of the African Bank for import-export (Afreximbank), and the setting up of a special easy financing for the African private sector (investors and entrepreneurs) without the guarantee of their governments.

For many among us, time flies through horizons without leaving traces of recognition and gratitude for what we have achieved for the good of others especially in my case not be born in the United States but I remain up to the maker of differences between cultures and the guardian of the memories I cherish and remember through my meetings and interactions with the real treasuries of the Humanity.

So to combine the useful with the pleasant, I published all these photos with first that of Africa over my shoulders. This photo dates from 2001, the year I suggested and participated in the organization of the First International Conference on Africa held in Northern California at Berkeley. Another will follow later in San Francisco in 2007.

I completed this first photo with others such as the one where the former CEO of the African Development Bank (Dr. Babacar Ndiang) was holding my hand and I was surrounded by African-American executives, one during one of my presentations and others showing a partial view of the audience.

Below among other pictures, there is a photo taken in the company with the Regretted Dr. Babacar Ndiaye, former CEO of the African Development Bank Group who holds firmly my right and left hand in both pictures.

On my right hand is Dr. Faheem Director of the Center for International Trade Development, on the other left side holding my hand is Dr. Boubacar N’diaye, Chairman of the African Development Bank from 1985 to 1995 and honorary chairman of the same institution (Rest in Peace among the Blessed ones, Ameen)

The African Development Bank (AfDB) will pay tribute to honor its former President, late Dr. Babacar Ndiaye, on Thursday 21 September 2017, from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm at the Bank’s Headquarters.

Under the aegis of Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the AfDB, the tribute ceremony will gather high level guests including former Heads of State, former AfDB Presidents and Ambassadors among others.

Dr. Babacar Ndiaye, 5th president of the AfDB from 1985 to 1995, is known for having transformed the Bank into a “Triple A” institution, a rating it still holds today. He supported the creation of many African institutions such as the African Export-Import Bank, Shelter Afrique, the African Business Roundtable. He also played a prominent role in opening up the Bank to the private sector.

The tribute aims at celebrating the life and achievements of former AfDB President, Dr. Babacar Ndiaye who passed away on 13 July 2017.

Said El Mansour Cherkaoui  April 26, 2023

Since my early studies at Institut des Etudes Politiques of the Grenoble University, France, [1975] the development and integration of Africa were at the forefront of my studies and topics of my presentations in seminaries and essay papers. It was natural that I continue to work and increase the awareness about Africa and its need to establish new kinds of relations with other countries other than the past metropolitan and colonialists.

Winning a Model of National Development Rooted in Revolutionary Doctrine with an Anti-colonial Past and History Would be a Tremendous Challenge to Uproot

During my research and presentation at Sciences Po Grenoble and since 1977-78, I have been saying that China is the Model of Development for the entire southern economies, starting with Africa as the first laboratory for implementation, more details in the next link:

The outcome of the China Model of Development took place also in the high-tech industry leading China to become one of the prominent sources of advanced technology innovation and transformation. This leap forward took place during the successive administrations of 5 Presidents of China which is unprecedented in the history of economic and tech development for a country that was considered an underdeveloped economy, a communist paria state without any capital orientation.

Said Cherkaoui International Trade Liaison with California and USA

1993-1994 – Event for the Promotion of Export and International Trade Between California and the Rest of the World that have Shaped my Memories and Destiny

don’t necessarily achieve an objective.

In California, it All Started in 1993 at the East Bay Small Business Development Center, at Green Breurner’s Building, the Former Largest Department Furniture Store at the 7th Floor with Ms. Selma Taylor as the Executive Director and Dr. Said El Mansour Cherkaoui as the Business Consultant

The Breuner Building at 2201 Broadway, Oakland, California became the site of the John Breuner Furniture Company in 1931.  The art deco terra cotta masterpiece was designed by prominent local architect Albert Roller

Historical landmark columnist Annalee Allen called the Breuner Building “an eight-story reinforced concrete building with a distinctive variegated sea-green glazed terra cotta front facade, constructed in 1931 to house the John Breuner Furniture Company store. Other noteworthy features of the building include Art Deco motifs, and a pair of stylized figures crafting a chair located over the front entrance.”

The Oakland store was closed in the 1970’s and sold by the company where, following renovation, the historic building reopened as an office building in the late 1970’s.

The California Genealogical Society moved into the former Breuner Building in March 2007. As of 2012, the appearance of Ikea furniture, large yoga balls for sitting, and a flyer on the door indicating an entrance on the side heralded the move-in of a startup on the ground floor of the building – Spark Art.

Location: 2201 Broadway, Oakland, California

Jeff Williamson

I wish you another Giant STEP toward success.  I have been around the arena of international trade and I know, I have seen, heard and read about what you have accomplished for California and its international traders and trading partners which is much more than just the exchange of goods.

In reality and  more importantly you have directly enabled peace and rapprochement between different and distant cultures.  You have opened new horizons for mutual understanding and laid down opportunities  that carried identities, channeled values and shared beliefs that reinforced the goodness of our humanity.

These are the hidden but authentic driving forces for the authentic builders of international trade relationships between entities, organizations and nations and you are ONE designer, builder and developer of such missions.  You deserve only the Best of the Best that will come to your path with the light of blessing and good health.

I look forward to keeping in touch with you and to continue to support and contribute to your drive toward making this world better for our children and the next generation.

God Bless all of us and our families together.

It has been my great pleasure knowing you and working with you through the Center for International Trade Development at Oakland and later on at Berkeley.

In reality, your statement “transitioning out of this role,” brought back my memories with the CITD and the EBCITD.

You remind me too of my own transitioning within the CITD at its every productive turn from 1993 to 2007 with just a few gaps given the frequent changes of the local Directors.

I joined the CITD in 1993 when only 4 centers existed in the entire California.  Our CITD was located at 2020 Milvia street inside of the Vista College with the Director Dr. Barbara Beno.

In 2006, the EBCITD and Vista College were transferred to the newly built and named Berkeley City College, here below is my presence pictured at this and other events around the world.

Moral of the story, I was at the founding of the Center for International Trade Development and at the Founding of the Berkeley City College and the transfer of the EBCITD at this new location.

This publication was produced in the Cahiers du CREDAL (Predecessor of CREDA) in Laboratory 111 Associated with the CNRS and integral member of l’Institut des Hautes Etudes de l’Amérique Latine, 28 Rue Saint Guillaume, Paris where I conduct my own doctoral research and I defended my thesis at the University of Sorbonne:

Capitalism reinvents itself through Subcapitalism, the theory that I created within the Institute of Economic Research and Planning, University of Grenoble and defended during the defense of my doctoral thesis at the University of Sorbonne of Paris III: Sorbonne Nouvelle whose title and summary are:

Title of my Doctoral Thesis:

Political economy of subcapitalism in Latin America (1830-1930): Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru University of Paris III, Sorbonne Nouvelle. Institute of Higher Latin American Studies. 1992. Location: Center Technique Livre Ens. Sup. ; Paris3-BU

http://www.diffusiontheses.fr/13784-these-de-cherkaoui-said-el-mansour.html

The period of the study is between 1830 and 1930, the choice of which was determined by the transformations experienced by Latin America during that century. Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru were among the countries most marked by a liberal integration into the international financial and commercial market and by a relative diversification of the terms of the collaboration of their states and their oligarchic and ruling classes with the proponents of international finance.

The formulation of the new concept on subcapitalist development and the theory on subcapitalism was elaborated on the analysis of the causes and consequences of the internationalization of capital in the form of foreign debt and foreign direct investment. A critique of the concepts of capitalist development, economic backwardness, absence of capital and market in Latin American countries and in those that remained in a colonial movement is conducted through a critical analysis of the works of Paul Baran and especially those of André Gunder Frank.

Subcapitalism complements capitalism to form a hierarchical, unequal and homogeneous world economy. Economy / History / Capitalism / Investment / Foreign debt / Development / International trade / Comparative analysis / Argentina / Chile / Peru / United States / Great Britain / Latin America / 19 century / 20 century.

1992. Localisation : Centre Technique Livre Ens. Sup. ; Paris3-BU

http://www.diffusiontheses.fr/13784-these-de-cherkaoui-said-el-mansour.html

In the late of 1970’s, while conducting my research on Brazil I discovered the real spiritual reason why I have been attracted and directed first by Yves Barel, and later by Celso Furtado, Raymond Prats, Frederic Mauro and Jacques Chonchol and why I met and received guidance from many scholars on Brazilian affairs from France, England, USA and Brazil. The reason I found it in an old book written by Prado Junior, Caio: Formação do Brasil Contemporâneo – Colônia, read here below:

Dear Sister and Dear Brother, it goes without saying that Brazil has been the target of my research since 1977 and therefore the Portuguese, so how can someone who jumped the walls of the Breija, the Moon, the Club and not be a little curious about the Portuguese of Mazagao and their relationship with the Don Joaos of Algarve and the Portuguese Royal Houses up to Don Pedro Primero, Don Pedro Segundo Braganca and Deodoro Da Fonseca.

Between us and in the year 1979 – 1980, I discovered that the Mazaganese with their Converted Moro Berbers had moved to the Azores to end up on the banks of the mouth of the Amazon to found Nova Mazagao in a classic book written by the father of the Economic History of Brazil: Prado Junior, Caio: Formação do Brasil Contemporâneo – Colônia, see this link:

In 1978, within the Institute of Economic Research and Planning, University of Grenoble – University Pierre Mendes France, I was the first Moroccan to do research on Latin America. In the same line, I also became the first Moroccan to come for a year to the University of Berkeley in California to do research on Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Peru and all of Latin America, it was the year 1981-1982

After that, in 1982, through Yves Barel, my Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Research and Planning, University of Grenoble, I was invited by Celso Furtado to go back to Paris to join him [Allah ya Rahmhoum]

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celso_Furtado

Celso Furtado wanted me to register as a PhD student and researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Latin America and again as the first Moroccan in this Institute for Advanced Studies in Latin America.

and whose data are as follows:

“The ambivalent relationship between the federal state and private interest groups in Brazil in the first half of the 20th century / Said El Mansour Cherkaoui.”

This publication dates from 1985, as the content of this link attests, it can be found in the most prestigious libraries in the world, including the Getulio Vargas Foundation in Rio de Janeiro.

According to William Glade, whom I had the privilege of meeting in Paris and asked me for a copy of this same publication and who had the courtesy to correspond with me about its contents and to deposit it at the Library of the University of Texas at Austin which houses one of the largest collections on Latin America.

So between 1978 and 1992 {date of the launch of my research and date of the defense of my doctoral thesis}, in fact more than 14 years of research on Latin America, I wrote more than 2000 pages, including 1400 pages only for my doctoral thesis, Political economy of subcapitalism in Latin America (1830-1930): Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and that I supported it within of the walls of the University of Paris III: Sorbonne Nouvelle and through which, I created a new Economic Theory, Subcapitalism:

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celso_Furtado

https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/007573264

With Celso Furtado and Raymond Prats guidance at the CREDAL, I conducted this research. The focus is to analyze the determinations and the results of the intervention of the Brazilian State in shaping the economic development and facilitating the transition between the Old Republic and the emergence of industrialists, Tenentes and technocrats within the spheres of the central decision-making.

Professor William Glade (see copy of his letter) has defined this work as a pioneer in its field of research on Brazil and through correspondence, he stated that only 2 Scholars inaugurated such area of research, Professor Steve Topik and Said El Mansour Cherkaoui.

In recognition of such work, Dr. William Glade deposed a copy of my Research at the Prestigious Library of the University of Austin, Texas. A copy of my research was also acquired by the Getulio Vargas Foundation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

POLITICAL ECONOMY OF SUBCAPITALISM IN LATIN AMERICA (1830-1930): ARGENTINA – BRAZIL – CHILE – PERU – Title of the Doctorate of Said El Mansour Cherkaoui

saidcherkaoui24@gmail.com – saidcherkaoui@triconsultingkyoto.com

Dr. Said El Mansour Cherkaoui was granted his doctorate by the Institut des Hautes Etudes de l’Amérique Latine et de l’Université de Sorbonne, started his doctoral research at the Institut de Recherche Economique et de Planification and graduated from the Institut de Sciences Po de l’Université de Grenoble.

Dr. Cherkaoui is the first Moroccan who followed and combined this study and a research path that had an affiliation with the CNRS through a doctoral specialization and a publication of research document on Latin America.

The document included in this publication is the culmination of his historic meeting between Mr. Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas and Dr. Cherkaoui that has sealed a friendly relationship and confirmed the interest of other leaders such as Celso Furtado and Jacques Chonchol and Latin American scholars such as Frederic Mauro, Francisco Oliveira, Cano Wilson, Jesus Tamayo and William Glade who held a great esteem toward the only Moroccan leading and carrying out studies and research on Latin America with a new perception and innovative approach that had naturally flourished by the creation by Dr. Said El Mansour Cherkaoui of a new theory and concept named Subcapitalism:

So, I frolicked like a Crazy Horse of Moulay Abdellah Banou Mghar between several corridors of hundreds of research centers, libraries, museums, archives and other institutions with knowledge on Latin America, France, Portugal, Spain, Great Britain, USA, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Mexico and of course also Morocco.

By the way, Morocco was the subject of my Diploma thesis at the Institut des Etudes d’Etudes Politiques de Grenoble, Sciences Po Grenoble: “The Economic Intervention of the Moroccan State: The Case of the Textile Industry” and that was in 1977.

I was the second Moroccan in the entire history of the University of Grenoble, now Université Pierre Mendes France, to present research on the Textile Industry in Morocco.

Here is for my escapades in the books of our History of which I am attaching one of them that you can read about our ancestors, the unpublished sources of the history of Morocco or our city is also treated

http://www.persee.fr/…/hispa_0007-4640_1935_num_37_2…

You will also find below a photo representing the page where our City Mazagao / Mazagan is approached

Dear Sister and My Dear Brother, I can only approve and say that indeed even long before the name of Mazagan or El Jadida were introduced, Fortaleza Mazagao and its neighbor Azemmour served as a transit link for goods not only as a port but as a destination for caravans from sub-Saharan countries.

http://www.persee.fr/…/hispa_0007-4640_1935_num_37_2…(opens in a new tab)

During the presence of the Portuguese, their trade with the interior of the country to the borders of the Atlas had as export port first Azemmour and Fortaleza Mazagao thereafter until their departure.

In fact, even the name Morocco comes from the deformation of the name Marrakech as pronounced by the Portuguese of Mazagao.

The Portuguese of Fortaleza Mazagao, the Capital of Doukkala gave them the name of the Country Morocco, the Moroccan authorities of the present erase the name of our Region Doukkala from the Administrative Map of Morocco.

Said El Mansour Cherkaoui and Mazaɣan, Mazaghan, ⵎⴰⵣⴰⵖⴰⵏ; جّديدة; ejjdida; الجديدة

The North American Free Trade Agreement created a preferential tariff area among the United States, Canada, and Mexico beginning on January 1, 1994. China is just catching up with the rest of the developed world and has all the right to expand its relations with Latin America like the rest of the globe, no more Monroe Doctrine or the Mercantilism Time for Latin America.

Latin American countries are opting for diverse international trade, economic and financial relationships and seeking also to learn about different cultures than the ones they inherited from the Europeans.

Since the independence movement and since the mid of the early 19th century, Latin American leaders have been seeking the inclusion of Asians in their economies as a way to reinforce their modernization drive and consolidate their urban population. Brazil and Peru have been in the forefront of such opening and acceptance of Japanese and Chinese citizens to the point that during the second war, Brazil became the target of investigations and surveillance of the Japanese community living mainly in the Sao Paulo State.

In fact, Brazil has been and still is the country who has the largest Japanese community living outside of Japan while Peru had a President of Japanese descent.

Within such historical and cultural ties of Latin America, China actually is renewing and renovating the inheritance of shared common memories that were built by previous generations.

Dot Come, Dot Gone, and Startup Bimmers

Return on Investment, Information Technology and Customer Relationship Management

This research and publication were part of my initiative to enhance the image of my position and responsibilities as well as the work I was conducting as Executive Director for Business Development at Mercanteo and Ambient before its acquisition by Oracle. Our startup focused on duplicating the ledger with the purchase receipts as the lead to trace the payment method and to transfer it to the Accounting software used as an expense. That is what the CEO has told us given that Ellison was a member of the Mercanteo Board of Directors and one of the investors and all this was driven thanks to that BMW sitting in the parking as a trophy of success for a Startup on the edge of the waterfront of Redwood City. Larry Ellison was known for surrounding himself with trophies figuratively and properly, and it was not astonishing that from playing tennis, he became one of the top sailors around the world bringing even the America Cup to the Bay Area.

Mercanteo was the initial name and I have suggested the name Ambient given the French consonance coming from Ambient et Ambiance, a place where you can feel a sense of beatitude and comfort. The Founders of this Startup had no clue about how to make this company the reflection and the expression of such metaphors.

The basic idea of the operation of this Startup was to have the purchase made by any business transferred to the Accounting Software and registered as a receipt with the amount of money spent. This will allow also not only to trace the expense but also to know through the receipt which credit card or method of payment was used.

I developed this research to be included in the existing website that had absolutely any study or pamphlet or even a kind of brochure presenting the product and its specifications or the value proposition that Mercanteo-Ambient was developing or offering as a service. The website had only a generic presentation of more dreams than realities and a summary of what McKinsey had taught to the Founders of this Startup given that the consulting firm was their first and last job before landing in this startup.

Build the first layers of prospective clients to be approached to enroll in the Mercanteo Program. So I launched a strategy of reassessment and reevaluation of the documentation and presentation of the Value Proposition and its Validation to enable Mercanteo-Ambient to have an identity based on the definition of the areas where the solution is proposed and what this solution is as a service and facilitation for further inventions and adaptation to the needs and demands of the clients and other companies offering synergistic operations that can complete our offering of services in the areas of reporting and documenting the Return on Investment and the allocation of Budgets of the operational expenses and to the financing of all purchases and acquisitions.

The Founders of Mercanteo-Ambient were more interested in attracting funds and investment than building the products and services or even the company. A table with a Chair facing the wall was the Technical Department: A guy who would show up only to upload what was made of this application by inserting in the potential client the Microsoft Excell.

The rest of the technical were the Untouchables from Calcutta were 4 to 5 individuals of Indian origin who were brought and under the supervision of the Vice President of Operations, a Lady of Indian origin, a former McKinsey employee, and Cofounder of an empty shell called Mercanteo-Ambient.

These 4-5 individuals were also under the spell of another Indian who was their Boss and who was hanging outside of the office smoking cigarette after cigarette going back and forth to the Fridge for drinks. They were all taciturn and they responded only to the Indian Lady, the Vice President. I tried to engage them about their work and the progress they made or just to explain their inputs and the value they are adding to the company with their daily fixing and staring at this wall as a curtain for the secretive reason of their presence and transparent action that is not explained to all of us, neither how they arrive every day to sit in front of this white wall.

They did not own cars or drive BMWs, so it must be the smoking Indian who Signed their presence and their absence, so he is the one who drives them to the office and takes them out of the office in his BMW, not the one parked outside as the symbol of elite belonging and success story in the making [See pic below].

If I dared to ask the Untouchables from Calcutta about the work they were doing, the content of their work, and their progress, all the Pack of Indian Techies panicked and all of them had a wide smiling face and answers while they desperately waited for the Vice-President or their Boss to come to their rescue. They had nothing to say or to communicate about. From that moment, the Indian Lady no longer said a word to me and had done the best job of her life to avoid eye contact with me.

The BMW Wheel of Fortune at the Silicon Valley

The BMW brand new car parked in the empty parking was the magnet for the first real funding of Mercanteo and Ambient which I learned later on. This BMW was like the “Idol made of Metal” to be adored for its blessing. The Sales Manager at the largest BMW Dealer in Silicon Valley who became part of Mercanteo’s Board of Directors and was responsible for stuffing the Fridge every afternoon Wednesday with beers and all kinds of beverages and premade food ready to be microwaved and swallowed. This Foody Man was also the one who persuaded and sold the idea of Mercanteo / Ambient bringing Lawrence Joseph Ellison of Oracle as an investor and member of the Board of Directors.

The hook was the BMW sale made to the Founder of Mercanteo / Ambient, the one sitting in the empty parking under the Sun of Redwood City, and the sale of BMW to Lawrence Joseph Ellison of Oracle of many other BMWs. Silicon Valley employees have their badges and allures as well as their reputations as successful StartupperS is the owning and the driving of BMW: The New Generation of BEMMEEERS.

It was not what you know but who you know – she or he who is driving a BMW.

The End of the Beemer Adventure

The 2 co-founders of the Company were an Indian Lady as Vice President and a Ukrainian as CEO who folded the Company when the number of employees became only himself and another Dreamer who made the big mistake of leaving Visa Card Corporation of San Mateo to come to crash at this moving sand startup.

The Vice-President got her tail behind her legs and rund before the moving of the BMW, she drove the Honda SUV to join Yahoo missed an offer by Microsoft for a deal of $44 billion, and ended up being rescued by Verizon for a sale of less than 4 billion dollars while Yahoo was accused of inflating the number of subscribers. After that magic fading, she is now a Vice President at Credit Evaluator and Provider after being rejected by Yahoo, the company she works in today is named Karma, What goes around comes around and back to the Future thanks to the Indian Connection in Silicon Valley

It is no more just being Beemer owner, it is more than that it is who you know from now on, Back to the Old Fashion Culture Future of American Corp.

The latest news on the Immigrant CEO from Ukraine who wanted to use BMW to be with the success makers became a Director of a Bank in Ukraine at the turn of 2000 and the BMW had magically disappeared from the Parking and the sight of the 101 exit of the Freeway.

Sharing research findings on ROI, IT, and CRM

Research by Dr. Said Cherkaoui

In 1997-1999, just before the initial burst of the first bubble with Dot/\com-Dot/\Gone, as Executive Director of Business Development at Mercanteo – Ambient, Innovator and Pioneer of NetSuite (acquired by Oracle) and as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of Technology at Golden Gate University in San Francisco – California, I conducted multiple research ranging from technology, business management, and international development [European Economic Community, NAFTA, Technology in China and the United States] and this within the schools and departments of this University. Among these research publications, I made this pioneering thematic presentation.

Dr. Miro Costa, as Department Head and Associate Dean of the School of Technology at Golden Gate University, San Francisco, has also encouraged this research given his direct interest and theme of his own on technologies of information.

My study has been reprinted by many publishers given the soundness of my analysis which since then has been confirmed by the development of IT and the implementation of an ROI-based CRM, here is a copy of – an excerpt from my research:

Said E. Cherkaoui Ph.D.

My take on a high-tech startup in Silicon Valley: Dot Come, Dot Gone in Late Nineties

Said El Mansour Cherkaoui was Executive Director of Business Development at Amient/Mercateo Redwood City, California during the Dot Come – Dot Gone era. He witnessed how the money was spent left and right by the former McKinsey consultant who converted his ins and outs into a startup that never took off but received funding even from the founder of ‘Oracle.

A brand new BMW was parked in the parking lot while I had to drive the CEO of this Startup from his apartment to the office. This BMW was bought just to please the owner of the BMW dealership who in return organized a meeting with the Founder of Oracle who invested in the Mercateo. The name of Mercanteo Startup was changed to Ambient following my suggestion to have a softer French connotation.

Mercanteo’s product was supposed to remember all purchases made by online businesses at stores like “Computer USA”, Office Depot, and other outlets. Once the payment is made by credit card, the transaction is supposed to be recorded and transferred directly to the accounting system as an expense with details of the product purchased, date, place, and amount and who made the payment.

The person who was in charge of the corresponding software, a close friend and colleague of the CEO of McKinsey was of Indian origin and had brought 4 Indian individuals who passed the time staring at a monitor and the wall behind while a fifth Indian trotted along outdoors smoking cigarette after cigarette.

This lady of Indian origin (actually with good Karma dealings), whom I called COP – Chief Operating the Product, acted as the gate advocate for those Indian “engineers” to whom we could not speak or ask anything if she was not there. It is she who must give the authorization to fix a meeting. The excuse is that these engineers were hired and paid by the hour and the guys outside smoking cigarettes were their clock for the time they spent staring at their computer screen and the money that they cash in exchange.

This team of 5 taciturn Indians was like a parade of Madame Tussaud Wax Master of Disastertech showing off just to impress visitors and potential investors to show them that Mercanteo has employees conducting in-house research and development of the product, which in reality never existed apart from a modified version of Microsoft-like Excel Spreadsheets patched with an Oracle database, a hybrid product that “the COP” tended to present as “Ownership of Inputs versus Ownership of Outputs ” according to the McKinsyniene strategic approach.

On the technical level in terms of setting up and management, this time it was a single person, an “American “Toubab” by stock” and with a bohemian tendency on the edges, who has no desk or even a chair and had to be called to accompany me when I visited a potential client in their office. This Tech Support was a person who looked more like a mechanic who changed the spare part than a System Engineer or Network Engineer, so he did not provide a solution to the problem and worse the product was not at all ready to detect the problems or define the solutions.

On the other hand, the Fridge was always full of American food, Hotdog, Burger, Macaroni, Donuts, Soups, Chicken and Fish Nuggets, Corndog, Wings, Cheese, Pizza everything that is mechanically separated and prepared, a cold museum of stuffed with top-notch artificial and chemical products. The drinks were of the same quality especially the beers for weekends. It was the Fiesta, what was missing was a Country Band or a Mariachi Group to make the atmosphere more ambient than the new name of the Startup Ambient.

The other employees who could be counted on the fingertips were always in a pleasant mood and individuals capable of being helpful given their attitude and their presence which remained of real kindness. Young people aspired to make a difference around them and among them, but the rest were not at the level of this human quality that could also be identified in innocence and the desire to volunteer to do good. These people were part of my team and were chosen by a human relations class manager. One of the best I have had the opportunity to work with in all my professional history in the USA.

This lady, responsible for human relations management and therefore a talent recruiter, is a Caucasian American who was the reason for my arrival in this Startup from Sprint Corporation.

Ms. Black was the one who convinced me to join Mercanteo and had a knack for recruiting the best. When she was put aside during the recruitment of a Vice-President for Business Development, Mercanteo became Ambient began to show the cracks I mentioned above which became more gaping with this crash landing of a Caucasian rogue from the North who drove an old Buick, wrapped in a buttonless suit and spoke like a former clandestine site manager of tree cutters in the Amazon. I understood what he was made of when I invited him for lunch in a restaurant to assess his knowledge of the field of application of the product we were looking to develop. All he brought up with me was what he had done before and laid out names and companies that I had no reason to know about.

I felt like I was sitting opposite a veteran of wars lost in memory and thought and worse first on battlefields that we would be more likely to listen to and see on the Screen of ‘Money only on the actual geographical or historical ground. These places and these encounters were shooting from all sides as if a deposit of fireworks had been lit by accident, there was around this guy an opaque smoke from his cigarettes whose tirades on the cigarette made his lips shine with all fire soaked in beer foam. I had the impression of being in front of a dancer in a trance incensed by the smoke of joints and incense exotic and distant in time as in space.

This future Vice-President drank and smoked excessively with his belly protruding from his belt and his unbuttoned vest making him like Santa Claus dressed on the sly for an interview at a Startup delivering gifts without address or recipient, he was in the vaps and I, who had never tasted a beer in my entire life, could talk about European beers and my stay in France and Germany and my visits to all of Western Europe and Romania when he did not even know not the origin of the beer that was right in front of him. To my great surprise, he thought it was German when it was founded by a Czech family that has a Germanic-sounding name.

At that time, this Bud for You, an unusual slogan that was the pride of Americans, and when he realized that I could give him such knowledge of his own choice of drink that he considered a symbol of American nationalism, that at deep inside, listening to a guy supposed to be from the Middle East. For him, Morocco was synonymous with Monaco and Casino, another Las Vegas somewhere lost in Western Europe that Sean Connery and Grace Kelly, who became the Princess of this Principality, had put on the radar of geographical knowledge for the Middle American.

In addition to my identified ethnic stereotype in Terro-Palestinians, I was conversing with an American Englishman with a cross-hatched accent but eloquent in definition, expression, and substance as I unwittingly conveyed to him a profound knowledge of the intricacies of popular culture and history. American that even he did not have given his intellectual and educational limitations.

So I was before him magnified but all of this made him as suspicious and wary of me as his booze could only make the length and breadth of my knowledge of Made in USA populism and Only in America.

How come I knew all those beers and wines and I didn’t share a drink with him at the time?

Such a question ran through his brain polluted by alcohol and the smoke of exotic vapors and he was neither the first nor the last to ask it. A question that cost me several positions, several jobs, and several opportunities in business, private jobs, and positions in the Academy in the United States.

You didn’t have to go far either in the conversation or in the exchange to realize that my account was settled in this interaction at the level of ignorance that only the smoke from his cigarettes could hide from the gaze and not from human understanding. For that, I remained calm and I knew that my situation did not last long in this company whose CEO hired such an individual and forced him to parachute between us without taking into account the opinion of the first interested person who is the manager of human relations, nor of myself since I was second in the business development department. It was as if all the transactions concerning the hiring of this individual had been carried out under the table while serving us artificial alibis and complicit silences without any other transparent approach, “the fact. , “le fait accompli – the accomplished fact”: Take or Leave it.

All the team members of my department understood such manipulations and began to disappear one after another from the panorama, including the mechanic guy. Only the Indian “engineers” were still there looking at the wall and the screen of their computers, while the visit to their meter became more spaced out and only took place when this new Vice-President went out to bang a cigarette butt with another guy who was his buddy and he moved out and brought in his luggage.

This buddy walked like a gorilla, a former adventurer without adventure, and served rather as a bodyguard for this New Vice-President. I never understood what was the contribution or the role of this individual whose only approach made it clear that he is a go-getter with his head down like a bull in this new bullfight that this arena has suddenly become Mercanteo – Ambient where the swords are now hidden under muleta camouflaged under the cheap suits and the jackets of these new invaders which exceeded their shoulders with crumpled pants like scrap paper. European elegance had yet to conquer or be embraced by these new dot.com startup cowboys.

The cool allowed all deviations in dress and justified the lack of quality both in terms of the look and the food offered, there was neither Haute Couture, nor Haute Culture, Nor Haute Cuisine while High Technology remained in the margins of Buzz-Words and Jargon and nothing on the table of creation or innovation at the level of these Startups which were still far from even Alpha level.
